The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people. We are a non-profit that provides 24/7 life-saving support via phone, text, and chat. We also operate the world’s largest safe space social networking site for LGBTQ youth and run innovative research, education, and advocacy programs. We’ve been saving lives every day for 20 years.

Overview of the role
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer will oversee and strengthen the operating policies, processes, and systems that enable The Trevor Project’s life-saving work. This individual leads all business functions for the organization, including finance, legal, operations, and technology. Across these four areas, the Chief Operating Officer will oversee experienced, subject matter experts in their respective areas. This individual will also work closely with other leaders across The Trevor Project to build an organization that can efficiently and effectively serve exponentially more LGBTQ youth.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage a growing team of over ten staff, including four direct reports leading their respective functions

  • Lead the implementation of new systems and processes that enable Trevor to scale, focusing on efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience

  • Oversee financial planning and management, both internally and with required third-parties, such as auditors

  • Supervise operations in Trevor’s offices in New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, including potential office expansions

  • Support the complex technology environment that enables our life-saving work, including product development and IT operation

  • Partner with the General Counsel and pro bono firms to ensure Trevor meets all legal obligations and manages risk responsibly

  • Work closely with department leaders across The Trevor Project to develop and track operations that align with Trevor’s mission and strategic priorities

  • Directly lead strategic, high-priority initiatives that impact the entire organization

  • Serve as a key member of the executive team, providing counsel on key decisions that enable The Trevor Project’s expansion (nationally and globally)

  • Advise the CEO on high-priority initiatives and opportunities for Trevor

  • Work with the Board and relevant committees as they execute their governance and oversight responsibilities
